AUTIN. ~The Basketball Travelers, Inc., announced the field Monday for the 24th U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam, and the Texas Longhorns women’s basketball team is included. Paradise Jam, a men’s and women’s basketball tournament, will be held at the University of the Virgin Islands Sports and Fitness Center in St. Thomas in November, as it has been for several years. The men’s tournament, in its 23rd year, will be held November 17-20, and the women’s tournament, in its 24th year, will be held November 23-25. Texas will compete in a three-day round robin at the Reef. On Nov. 23, Texas will play Arizona State, on Nov. 24 they will play High Point, and on Nov. 25 they will play South Florida. The triple title of the evening starts at the same time, at 9:00 p.m.

The Department of Tourism was formally incorporated as an executive agency on May 8, 1995. Formerly known as Virgin Islands Economic and Agricultural Development, the Department of Tourism now operates independently. The Department of Tourism was later created as one of several sub-departments of the EDA. The primary mission of the department is to boost the Territory’s economy by promoting tourism and associated industries. Ministerial duties include, but are not limited to, the development, implementation and coordination of tourism-related policies and initiatives under the direction of the Tourism Commissioner.
