SHREVEPORT, Louisiana~ According to Louisiana police, a K-9 cop suffered a heat-related injury while on duty and later died. The Shreveport Police Department is mourning the loss of their K-9, Harrie, who died at the age of seven. The department said Saturday afternoon, K-9 Harrie and his handler, Sgt. Jeff Hammer, were searching on foot for suspects who had fled from a stolen car following a pursuit by police officers.
K-9 According to the police department, while Harrie was pursuing the criminals, he suffered a heat-related injury while doing so. Harrie was taken to an emergency veterinary clinic as soon as possible, but doctors and nurses were unable to rescue him. According to the Shreveport Police Department, Harrie joined their force in January 2018 and quickly became one of the most in-demand K-9s around.

Harrie, a Belgian Malinois, was once thought to be a ‘lost cause’ when he was in his youth. However, once he began working with Hammer, Harrie transformed into an “outstanding” K-9 officer who helped train other police dogs, according to the department.
