Murder charges against Chicago mom and son, 14, dropped after video shows victim beating mom
Prosecutors have dropped murder charges against a mom and her teenage son after initially claiming she “ordered” him to kill a man at a Chicago restaurant.
Carlycy Hood, 35, was accused of senselessly shooting her son, 14-year-old Jeremy Brown, 32, on June 18.
But the George Soros-backed Cook County district attorney has since dropped the charges after video surfaced of Brown repeatedly punching Hood, a tax preparer.
She went to the Maxwell Street Express fast food restaurant in the West Pullman area just before 11 p.m., but her son stayed in the car.
Footage taken by police initially only confirmed that the boy was operating the restaurant and opening the hearth, again capturing Brown.

But prosecutors have since dropped the charges after footage emerged of Jeremy Brown, 32, attacking Hood.
But brand new surveillance video showing Brown punching Hood multiple times has dropped the charges.
You could see Brown yelling at Hood to “get dinner!” when she starts arguing with him.
As she continued to scream at him, he shouted: “Oh my god, if you say one more thing I’m going to knock you out.”
He then took a huge swing and punched her, while various potential employees of the retailer looked on in horror and ran away.
Hood was arrested and charged with murder and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Cook County District Attorney Kim Fox decided to drop the legal charges for mom and son based mostly on brand new pictures.
In a statement, she said, “Based on our ongoing investigation and in light of new evidence, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office (CCSAO) today moved to dismiss the charges against Carlishia Hood and her 14-year-old son.
“Based on the facts, the evidence and the law, we cannot meet our burden of proof in bringing these cases.”

Hood, 35 (left), entered the Maxwell Street Express takeout restaurant in the West Pullman area on June 18 as her 14-year-old son (right) initially waited outside.
The footage came only after Hooda, who legally owned the gun, surrendered herself on June 21 along with her son.
Chicago police released surveillance footage of the incident in early June, showing Hood and her son arriving at the retailer.
Hood could be seen shot dead after her arrest for murder charges.
Hooda could be seen placing her order earlier than the footage cuts to her son pulling a gun from his pocket in the doorway.
The video from the Chicago Police Department did not show Brown, while the last part of the video confirmed that the teenager was outside with a gun.
Hooda returned to her car with her son as police asked for assistance in tracking the 2 suspects, who later surrendered.
Initial reports from the Chicago Defender acknowledged that Hooda told her son to shoot Brown and shoot his girlfriend, but her household disputed that.
A fundraising webpage organized by Hood’s sister, Darnitrea Wylie, said: “There was an argument with a stranger named Jeremy which resulted in a physical altercation.
“As a result, Jeremy punched Karlishia Hood several times in the head.”

Wiley accused the individuals of being hasty in sentencing her sister without being aware of the information.
The website had raised nearly $10,000 of its $35,000 monthly goal as of Tuesday morning.
“Thank you for standing up to a bully, no man should hit a woman,” one donor wrote on the webpage.
Another added: “This is extremely hard to watch! What else is a 14 year old to do when he sees his mother being brutally attacked by a raging man. Pray for justice.
Rapper Meek Mill was among those who praised Foxx’s decision, saying, “Thank you for playing the role at the right time!”
The choice to cut costs is the latest in a string of controversial choices by DA Foxx. Many have accused her of being comfortable with crime, as Chicago has seen an increase in crime and high-profile incidents.
In 2020, liberal financier George Soros donated $2 million to a PAC supporting Foxx in her re-election marketing campaign. She won that race and has been giving criminals deferred prosecutions and softball deals ever since.
Chicago had more murders in 2021 than in any other 12 months since 1994.
Foxx announced last month that she would not seek re-election as the district’s chief prosecutor in 2024 after serving eight years.
