Simon Findlay Crean was an Australian politician and trade union activist. From 2001 to 2003, he was both leader of the opposition and leader of the Australian Labor Party (ALP).
He served as a cabinet member in the Hawke, Keating, Rudd and Gillard governments while serving as Hotham’s representative in the House of Representatives from 1990 to 2013.
He was appointed vice-president in 1981 and president in 1985 of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU).

Simon Crean was born to his parents on February 26, 1949 in Melbourne, USA. The union leader spent most of his childhood there with his parents. Crean grew up in the Middle Park area of downtown Melbourne.
Frank Crean and Mary Findlay were the union leader’s parents. Her father, Frank, was a federal Labor MP for 26 years between 1951 and 1977.
