Maniac sets straphanger on fire inside NYC subway before being arrested after fleeing train: cops

A maniac on a downtown Manhattan subway ignited a cup of flammable liquid Saturday afternoon, then threw it at a stranger, inflicting the person’s shirt to ignite and burning his chest and neck, cops stated.

The firestarter fled from the prepare after the terrifying, unprovoked assault, authorities stated.

The incident unfolded because the No. 1 prepare was pulling into the Houston Street Station at West Houston and Varick Street round 2:45 p.m., when the attacker flicked his cup on the rider, who seemed to be in his 20s.

When the doorways opened, the attacker ran from the prepare however stopped to scoop up a cellphone {that a} feminine on the platform had dropped.

Quick-thinking cops talked to her and tracked the cellphone. They arrested the firebug close by, cops stated.

The burned man was handled for minor accidents at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Hospital.
