Maia Vezina was a young woman from Nelson, British Columbia. She was born on January 23, 1994 to Pat Henman. She was the sister of Zoe Vézina and Liam Vézina.

Maia obtained her two degrees at a regional university. After that, she was due to start her teaching career in August this year. Sadly, she passed away as an indirect effect of the accident she suffered about 10 years ago.

How did Maia Vézina die?

Maia Vezina, of Nelson, British Columbia, died after an overdose of painkillers on Friday, May 26, 2023. She was taking the medication regularly due to pain she suffered after being involved in an accident with her mother ten years ago.

A CT scan and full manual check by two ICU doctors confirmed that his brain had stopped functioning and all blood flow had stopped due to an overdose of painkillers. Thus, the death of Maia Vezina was pronounced.

His organs will be donated to save other lives and the procedure will be completed Monday at Kelowna Hospital.

Maia Vézina was involved in a frightening accident with her mother, Pat Henman, then 62 years old. Vézina was driving the vehicle when it collided head-on with another vehicle driven by a drunk driver.

Shara Bakos, 42, has been identified as the driver who caused the accident which seriously injured Pat Henman and Maia Vezina. She also had previous impaired driving offenses that resulted in her license being suspended.

The crash happened on a Sunday afternoon around 5:30 p.m. in Skookumchuck, East Kootenay. The mother-daughter duo were stretched and airlifted to the nearby medical facility after sustaining serious injuries in the accident.

Maia Vézina suffered multiple fractures to all four limbs while her mother had to stay in hospital for six months and undergo 19 surgeries. Their lives were devastated because of the accident.

After the accident, Maia Vézina was in a lot of pain and regularly took “powerful painkillers” which affected her negatively. However, she still spoke publicly about the accident to raise awareness about impaired driving.
