Longtime Sacramento comic book store burglarized twice in a week. ‘I felt pretty numb’

Dave Downey, the proprietor of a longtime Sacramento comic book and toy store, mentioned he tried to deal with patching up his store after a burglar smashed glass and stole collectibles earlier this week.

But the proprietor of World’s Best Comics & Toys in Arden Arcade is grappling with a second housebreaking after he mentioned the identical suspect broke into his store once more on Thursday and stole the identical objects taken throughout the first incident: “Yu-Gi-Oh!” buying and selling playing cards and “Transformers” toys.

“I felt pretty numb that it could happen so quickly,” Downey mentioned in a telephone interview about Thursday’s incident. The first housebreaking at his store at 2608 Watt Ave. occurred Sunday, he mentioned.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the burglaries, mentioned Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

Downey mentioned the suspect appeared to have focused “Transformer’s” toys and “Yu-Gi-Oh!” playing cards, forsaking different worthwhile objects.

Both are coveted objects extremely sought by collectors — and a few of them is probably not doable to restock after they’re gone, Downey mentioned.

He added preliminary estimates counsel the store has suffered losses of about $6,000 by means of each incidents.

“Drilling holes into 65 year old concrete is NOT fun and I don’t recommend it,” Downey wrote on social media of making a steel gate round his store.

The suspect, caught on digicam, seems to have left his fingerprint and palm prints behind on the glass, Downey mentioned. Crime scene technicians recovered blood on the glass after the suspect reduce himself breaking into the store, he mentioned.

The proprietor of the store since 1999 mentioned he’s taking all of it in stride.

“I probably have the best customers in the world,” Downey mentioned. “It’s really been impactful and emotional to hear everyone’s support.”
