Lockport man arrested after welfare check leads to discovery of dead woman

LOCKPORT, NY – The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office received a call to check on the welfare of a person on Windermere Road around 9:18 a.m. Wednesday. Authorities say a visiting nurse made the call after being unable to make contact with a patient who was staying at the property. A Lockport guy is being investigated for murder after a woman’s body is found during a welfare check. The woman had been dead for some time.

According to authorities, upon arrival, they discovered a woman lying on the floor of the residence. According to them, the woman was unconscious and suffered several head and facial injuries. At the scene, his death was officially pronounced. Other members of the same family were identified inside the house; one of them was peacefully arrested. The third family member, who authorities said was due to meet the visiting nurse, was found and in good health. The suspect, David Fermoile, 64, was taken into custody and charged with second degree murder. Following his appearance in CAP Court, he was subsequently sent to the Niagara County Correctional Facility. He was held without the possibility of bail. For the moment, the name of the victim will not be made public by the authorities.

New York police confirmed on Saturday that the body of 11-year-old Alfa Barrie had been found the day before in the Hudson River. The NYPD Port Unit was notified just before 7 a.m. that a body had been discovered in the water near 102nd Street and Riverside Drive. Barrie reportedly did not respond when the unit arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Police said they were awaiting autopsy results to identify the cause of death.

Police say on Thursday, several days after 13-year-old Garrett Warren went missing, his body was discovered in the Harlem River, about a quarter of a mile from his home. Surveillance footage near Warren’s home in Harlem shows the boys together around the time they went missing. Barrie’s family reported her missing on May 12 from their Bronx residence.

The boys spent Friday night together, according to CBS New York, and Warren’s mother, Dayshell Moore, said they got home at 1:30 a.m. to change clothes. Warren’s mother told CBS New York that the boys then went to play basketball. According to the NYPD, the probe is still active.
