Killer cop hired: Disgraced ex-NYPD sergeant working for NYC police union

A disgraced former NYPD cop, pressured to stop after fatally capturing an aged schizophrenic lady in The Bronx, has discovered a brand new job working for one of many metropolis’s police unions, The Post has discovered

Hugh Barry, who was tried and acquitted for homicide and manslaughter for the 2016 killing of 66-year-old Deborah Danner, is described on the web site for the Sergeants Benevolent Association of the NYPD as a reimbursement coordinator.

Barry was pressured to resign in 2023 following an inside evaluation of the deadly incident, which discovered he “exercised poor tactical judgment.”

His actions on the job price town $2 million, after it settled a wrongful loss of life lawsuit filed by Danner’s twin sister, Jennifer, who declined to remark.

It was unclear what Barry’s new job entails, or when he began working for the SBA, which didn’t reply to The Post’s quite a few requests for remark.

Barry didn’t return calls.

In October 2016, Barry was dispatched to Danner’s Castle Hill residence after 911 obtained calls the mentally-ill lady had been performing erratically.

Danner, a writer who shared her experiences with mental illness, was shot to loss of life after she picked up a baseball bat.

Barry, an NYPD sergeant on the time, argued he fired in self-defense.

In 2017, Barry was arrested for capturing Danner, changing into the first on-duty cop to face a homicide rap since 1999.
