ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Rockford Police Department reports that around 9:16 p.m. officers arrived in the 12th Avenue and 8th Street area in response to a call for service. The victim of a Saturday night shooting in Rockford, Ill., a 20-year-old man, has been identified. The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office was able to positively identify the deceased as Johnathan Jones, who was 20 years old.
When they arrived, they discovered a wrecked automobile with Jones still in the driver’s seat. It seems that he was shot several times because he was injured. Jones was taken to a nearby hospital, but he did not survive his injuries and later died there. Officers searched the area and found numerous shell casings, as well as a vehicle and residences that had been damaged by gunfire. No one has been taken into custody in connection with the incident. Officers were dispatched to the residence located in the 3100 block of Guilford Road to carry out a welfare check on the occupants inside. When the police arrived, the front door was apparently already open. According to a press release sent by the Rockford Police Department, the body of the 26-year-old woman was discovered in the living room. The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office has yet to release the woman’s name, so we don’t know her identity.
According to Rockford police, the body of a woman was discovered inside her residence on Saturday and they have opened a homicide investigation as a result. Police said they do not believe his murder was a random act of violence and are treating it as a homicide investigation.
