Jason Donovan says Kylie Minogue was his “first true” love

Jason Donovan has admitted his romance with Kylie Minogue was “complete” and that the pop princess was his first real relationship.

The couple, who met at a young age while starring in the soap opera Neighbours, dated for 5 years before divorcing in 1989.

The 55-year-old actor cherishes the memory of his time with the 55-year-old pop star. Sydney Morning Herald on Saturday.

“I had several relationships before I got married. The first real one was with Kylie Minogue from 1984 to 1989,” said Jason.

“It was for completely obvious reasons,” he added.

The pair reunited last year for the final episode of Neighbors, reprising their iconic roles as Scott and Charlene Robinson.

He admitted it was “quite a blow” when the Locomotion singer dumped him for INXS frontman Michael Hutchence.

“It was an extremely painful farewell to the knees and it took me a long time to recover from it, no doubt,” he advised A mirror.

He added that he and Kylie never talked about their split, which would make headlines, claiming they were just “not close enough to get into it.”

Jason previously revealed he felt like a ‘little lost boy’ when the couple split in 1989.

That’s when he suggested Telegram of the day he did not see that the break was coming, and that he was completely upset when he discovered that she was infatuated with the rocking horse.

‘I didn’t count on that. God, I used to be a huge Michael Hutchence fan,” he said.

“He was the epitome of an Australian rock god and extremely cool. It made me look at myself and go, ‘Who am I?’

Michael died in 1997 after being found dead in his Sydney Lodge room.

Jason has been married to director Angela Malloch since 2008, so they have two children, daughter Gemma and son Zach.

Meanwhile, Kylie moved on from British GQ boss Paul Solomons earlier this year after 5 years together and has since moved from the UK to Australia.
