Identity of Warren County home fire victim revealed
PHILLIPSBURG. ~ Warren County The identity of the man who died in a Phillipsburg home fire early Sunday morning has been released by authorities. On June 18, at approximately 6:19 a.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to 134 Mercer Street in response to a report of a building on fire. According to the Warren County District Attorney’s Office, when authorities arrived at the site, they found that two people were still inside the building. Authorities say a woman in her 53rd year was rescued from the second floor and taken to St. Luke’s Warren Hospital for medical assistance.
Peace Mazelis, 32, of Phillipsburg was discovered on the first floor and sent to St. Luke’s Warren, where he died June 19 after being treated there. According to the prosecution, smoke inhalation and thermal injuries are the two contributing factors that led to the death of the victim. According to the results of the preliminary investigation, the fire started in a room located on the ground floor. According to the authorities, the origin of the fire has not been conclusively confirmed; nevertheless, at that time, it is believed that the source was of the electrical type. The prosecutor’s office said the investigation into the fire would continue, but it did not appear suspicious.
