Trying to find the words for it, as today we learned that IPA Hall of Famer Steve Meisner has died of stage IV cancer. The photos and video are from last November when Mason had the chance to work with Steve for two nights here at La Crosse Bierhaus. We had wonderful visits with Steve and his 38 year old fiancée Barb. Mason and I are still talking about that weekend and what an opportunity it was for a 12 year old drummer. After the 2nd night and before we left, Steve smiled and said “that boy has some rhythm”. Over my playing years we have so enjoyed working alongside Steve and the Boys at various festivals etc. He was one of a kind and a true performer. He always said “thank you music lovers” but it’s Steve, we thank you for top notch music performed on so many levels. Rest in peace Steve. Sending our love and hugs to Barb and the Meisner family during this difficult time.

Naturally, we played Steve Meisner at our wedding on May 13. After all, he performed live at my parents’ wedding 31 years ago! 62 years young, gone too soon. His legacy, like his fathers, will live on. Rest in peace Steve. We’ll keep the music happy for you.

Steve Meisner was not just a musician but a music industry legend. His passion for music, his contagious personality and his expert command of the accordion made him a true icon, and his musical prowess will be missed. However, we can take comfort in the fact that his music will continue to touch the hearts and souls of his fans everywhere, and his legacy will last forever. Rest in peace Steve Meisner.
