Documentary about Ohio River’s history and current challenges to debut on KET

A Louisville filmmaker is debuting a brand new documentary showcasing the wealthy history of the Ohio River and the longer term challenges it faces on Kentucky’s public tv broadcaster. 

The one-hour documentary referred to as “This Is The Ohio” options the travels of filmmaker Morgan Atkinson and his 981-mile journey alongside the river from the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers close to Cairo, Illinois, to town of Pittsburgh, in accordance to a launch. 

“I questioned the river’s true identity. I asked, ‘Is it solely a commercial highway essential to the economic well-being of the United States? Or is it a natural wonderwater providing incredible opportunities for recreational users? How about its status as America’s second most endangered waterway?’” Atkinson stated in a press release. “I found the answers to be in all of the above.”

The nonprofit environmental advocacy group American Rivers in an annual report final yr ranked the Ohio River because the second most endangered river within the nation, citing air pollution and local weather change as threats to wildlife and consuming water for tens of millions of people that rely on the river.
