Death of Ivan Cornejo in a car accident, crash of the American regional Mexican music

Ivan Cornejo is a Mexican-American regional music singer-songwriter. Cornejo went through a college breakup which inspired him to start writing songs. He learned to play the guitar by watching tutorials on YouTube. The first song he learned to play was “La Bamba” by Ritchie Valens.

Cornejo’s debut album, Alma Vacia, peaked at number two on the Billboard Mexico US Regional Albums chart and number seven on the Top Latin Albums chart. The album sold 7,000 album-equivalent units, peaked at number 156 on the Billboard 200 chart, and remained in the top ten of the Mexican Regional Albums Chart for 35 weeks. Its songwriting credits propelled it to the top of Billboard’s Latin Songwriters chart for the week ending October 30, 2021. Alma Vacia was named one of the best albums of 2021 by The New York Times.

The single “Está Dañada” went viral on TikTok in September 2021. It peaked at number 61 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming the second Mexican song to enter the Hot 100. Billboard magazine named Cornejo its column “Rising Star Artist” for October 2021.

Her second studio album, Dañado, debuted at number one on the Mexican Regional Albums Chart for the week ending June 18, 2022. The album sold 8,000 album-equivalent units, had 11, 9 million streams of songs from the album and peaked at No. 4 in the Latin Albums chart. Dañado provided Manzana Records with their first number one album. The album also peaked at number 28 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Cornejo was named New Mexico Regional Artist for the 2022 Premios Juventud. His musical inspirations include T3R Elemento and Grupo Los De La O. The guitar solos on Cornejo’s songs incorporate influences from alternative rock, a genre that his brother and his mother listened during Cornejo’s childhood.
