Dave Daly Galway Ireland, first-team coach, has died after a brief illness

Death of Dave Daly – Dave Daly, one of West Utd Fc’s finest first-team coaches and board member, has died unexpectedly. Dave Daly was announced dead today, Tuesday June 6, 2023. He passed away after a short battle with illness. It wasn’t until last Friday night that he sent out the call for his club mates to call his house and visit him. He spent most of the evening giving everyone life advice and never complained about what he had to deal with.

To his wife Eileen and the entire Daly family, extended family and huge circle of friends, we offer our deepest condolences. We lost a Galway legend today. A man who simply lit up every room he walked into. Even in his final days, his witty humor and positivity shone so bright. You couldn’t believe he was sick.

So far, no official information about his cause of death has been released.

Who was Dave Daly?

Except for himself, Dave was concerned about everyone. He had the kind of personality that you could live ten lives without ever seeing each other again. He was one of a kind. An exceptional person, and above all, a true family man. He was a friend to many people and his death will leave a void that cannot be filled. Dave began his football career under Mike O’Connor and won his first award with West, the Connacht U15 Cup.

Dave returned as manager in the following years. West Utd Fc thought it was time to hire a manager, pay him and become more professional like other clubs were doing. West Utd Fc approached Dave in the early 2000s and wanted him to run the 1st club. Dave agreed, but on one condition, which sums up Dave. He refused to accept payment. Dave did it because he loved the game.

Dave was also a top referee, having officiated in two FAI Intermediate Finals. It demonstrated his stature in the game and how well-liked he was. For St Michael’s he was also an accomplished Gaelic footballer. When William Grant asked him to come back two years ago, Dave went West and immersed himself in all of West Utd. He was proud of the West United FC Academy. He had all the advisor rings for better Swamp facilities.

The family will publish an obituary and funeral arrangements for Dave Daly.
