An inquest has heard that a married man and woman who were found dead with their dogs made a suicide pact during a police investigation. On September 11, 2021, the bodies of Francis Collins, 36, and Cassie Collins, 35, were discovered inside their home in Cullompton, Devon. Before the ‘soulmates’ took their own lives, the duo euthanized two of their five dogs, but when their bodies were discovered, their three canine companions had already died.

Before their death by suicide, the couple had been in a relationship for a combined total of 11 years, during which time they were said to be “really good together and united at the hip”. Cassie was a nursing student and Francis had served in the military, but things got worse after a police investigation into a firebombing feud the couple had with a neighbor left the couple scared that everything would be taken from them. The couple argued with the neighbor over whether the firebombs had been planted or not.

When they lived in Wales, they fought legally with their neighbors over land they all claimed belonged to them. Following the argument, Francis threw homemade firebombs at his neighbor’s driveway, which led to his subsequent incarceration for eight months. After a while Francis had finished his sentence and the couple decided to move to Devon.
