California superintendent fired after allegedly threatening to punish students who didn’t clap for her daughter

A California faculty district axed its superintendent this week – practically a 12 months after students claimed she threatened to ban them from commencement festivities for failing to clap loudly sufficient for her daughter at a sports activities banquet.

The board overseeing the 35,000-student Poway Unified School District in San Diego voted unanimously to dismiss Marian Kim Phelps on Tuesday throughout a closed-door assembly, The Los Angeles Times reported.

“The investigation brought to light previous unknown evidence with witnesses with direct first-hand knowledge that contradicted Dr. Phelps’ statements and assertions to the board, district staff and the public,” the board’s assertion stated.

Phelps felt members of the softball staff at Del Norte High School, a Poway Unified campus in San Diego, didn’t applaud loudly sufficient for her daughter after she was named MVP throughout a May 30 staff banquet, in accordance gamers, coaches and academics.

The so-called slight, gamers alleged, prompted Phelps to launch an investigation — and threaten to bar seniors from collaborating in commencement ceremonies.
