Audiences mock casting that looks nothing like Steve Waugh in Shane Warne miniseries

Shane Warne’s biographical TV series called Warnie debuted on Channel Nine on Sunday night.

And many watching the system couldn’t help but reconcile that the actor who plays cricketer Steve Waugh, a friend of the late Warne, doesn’t look much like the real man.

Vo’s current film stars skilled Melbourne actor Tom Stokes, best identified for his role in the British crime thriller series Trigger Point.

Viewers who tuned in were not surprised by what they saw, and many shared their thoughts on Twitter.

“This is one of the worst things I have ever seen. Is that Steve Waugh? Haha,” one wrote.

“There’s so much wrong with Warney, but the fact that Steve Waugh is no less than Steve Waugh is pretty hard to miss,” one said.

“Steve Waugh looks more like Bill Laurie,” one tweeted, while one asked: “Should this guy be Steve Waugh?”

“Don’t think I can keep this up. They don’t even look like the ones they’re supposed to be playing. Is that Steve Waugh,” one viewer commented.

“If they’ve cast Steve Waugh so badly with an actor who doesn’t look like him, I can’t imagine the rest,” wrote another.

Viewers who tuned in were not surprised by what they saw, and many shared their thoughts on Twitter. “Is that Steve Waugh? Haha,” wrote one

“Mark Waugh is even less like Mark Waugh than the actor who plays his twin brother,” commented another.

“One doesn’t sound like Shane Warne and dude doesn’t look like Steve Waugh… we’ve only been 5 minutes,” one tweeted..

Stokes mentioned before this moment premiered that he was excited to paint Waugh, who is definitely one of his heroes.

“Very happy to share with you. Steve Waugh. Personal hero and a big part of my teenage years.

“It was amazing to dive deep into the man and his phenomenal performance,” he wrote on Instagram.
