A missing 22-year-old man was found dead near Sunset Rock on Lookout Mountain

According to a press release issued by the Hamilton County Emergency Management Office, the body of a missing 22-year-old man was discovered Friday evening on Lookout Mountain near Sunset Rock. The man had been reported missing earlier in the day. On Friday, a concerned father called 911 to report that his son was missing and failed to show up for a scheduled doctor’s visit.

Using the Find My Phone smartphone app, the father was able to locate his son’s lost cell phone near Sunset Rock, located on Lookout Mountain at 400 West Brow Road. Following the report, the Lookout Mountain Police Department and Fire Department responded. At 6:05 p.m., Lookout Mountain Fire Department personnel walked approximately two miles on the Sunset Rock Trail. They then backed up eighty feet to reach the spot where they located the victim’s body.

After a request for mutual aid was made, Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department, Hamilton County Emergency Management Office/Sheriff’s Office Drone Team, Team Cave and Cliff of Hamilton County, Hamilton County Special Tactical and Rescue Services, the Hamilton County Caves and Cliffs Team, Hamilton County Emergency Management Services, Lookout Mountain, Georgia , firefighters and the Hamilton County Caves and Cliffs team all responded to the scene. At the Lookout Mountain Fire Station, members of the Chattanooga Fire Department stood by in case more emergency calls were received. There is currently no additional information that can be provided at this time.
