58-year-old man found dead in Welches after scattering ashes with his brother

PORTLAND, OREGON– The body of an Oregon lady was discovered outside a barn in Washington, and authorities believe she was moved there. A search and rescue team has been sent to an area southeast of Molalla after the man’s brother told authorities they had both traveled there to scatter the man’s ashes next to a tree they had planted together as children. The brother told people looking for them that they were looking for the tree near the intersection of North Lais Road and Dickie Prairie Road when they parted ways. When the family could not locate him, they contacted the sheriff’s office for assistance.

According to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, the body of a man who was reported missing Sunday in the Welches area was discovered the following evening. The man was 58 years old. The sheriff’s office said the guy’s official cause of death is not yet known; however, “it appears he may have suffered from some sort of medical condition”.

The death of an Oregon lady is being investigated as a homicide after her body was discovered this month outside an abandoned barn in Washington state. Joanna Speaks, 32, was found dead just before 6 p.m. Sunday night near 8004 S. 5th St. in Ridgefield, a town about 22 miles north of Portland. On April 8, the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office released its findings.

According to the sheriff’s office, “there are indications that the body was moved to this location.” The sheriff’s office has not provided any further information regarding the death and no suspects have been named. “The cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and neck, and that’s all we know,” Ariel Hamby, Speaks’ half-sister, was quoted by the station as saying.

In an email sent Tuesday afternoon, the medical examiner’s office confirmed that Speaks died of “blunt force injuries to the head and neck.” To paraphrase what Hamby told KGW, Speaks’ death “keeps me up at night.” Asked about the reported cause of death, she replied: ‘I mean it’s violent’, adding: ‘and that person is walking around’. The sheriff’s department said last week it was seeking information from anyone who saw “suspicious people or vehicles at or near” where Speaks’ body was discovered. He continued: ‘Please contact detectives if you have had recent contact with Joanna Speaks, find out where she has been staying or who she has associated with. Robyn Speaks, Speaks’ older sister, told Portland’s NBC affiliate KGW that their sister’s death “just doesn’t make sense.”
